DC-DC Converters are used for providing DC power from a DC input source. The R1S8-123.3 is a family of DC-DC converters manufactured by R1S8 Corporation. It is designed to provide DC power at up to 19.2 Volts, at up to 8.0 Amps of output current.The R1S8-123.3 is a switching DC-DC converter, with an isolated, current-mode, fixed-frequency Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control. It operates in both step-up (Boost-mode) and step-down (Buck mode) configurations. The switches used to control the converter are external MOSFETs. The device is available in a variety of package types, including through hole, and surface mount.The R1S8-123.3 is designed for use in applications such as Medical and Industrial power supplies, DC-DC Lighting, Battery Chargers, Automotive, and Renewable Energy Systems. It is also suitable for high density, distributed power systems, such as Telecom and Server Power Systems.The R1S8-123.3 can be configured to operate in either constant voltage mode, or constant current mode. In constant voltage mode, the output voltage is regulated by internal feedback loops. In constant current mode, the output current is regulated by an external resistor.The R1S8-123.3 works by converting a DC input voltage, into a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal, which is then converted back into a DC output voltage. When the R1S8-123.3 is operating in step-up mode, a MOSFET is used to open and close the circuit repeatedly, as the input voltage is driven higher and lower. This causes the output voltage to rise and fall as a function of the input voltage. In buck-mode, the MOSFET operates in a similar manner, however, it is used to control the output voltage, instead of the input voltage.The operating frequency of the R1S8-123.3 can be adjusted between 100 kHz and 400 kHz, by the use of an external resistor. This allows the user to adjust the switching frequency to optimize the performance of the device, depending on the application.The R1S8-123.3 is designed to operate in a wide range of temperatures, and can withstand a wide range of input voltages. It is also designed to protect the user from over-voltage and over-temperature conditions.The R1S8-123.3 is an excellent choice for a wide range of DC-DC converter applications. Its adjustable switching frequency makes it suitable for a variety of system requirements, while its robust construction ensures reliability and long term operation.
