Voltage Reference is an important component of the Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) and is used to provide stable voltage by setting the reference voltage. The REF02CN8 voltage reference is an improved device of its predecessor REF02CS which offers superior accuracy, faster settling time and better temperature drift performance. It also has improvements in power consumption and control size. REF02CN8 can be used in various power supply, signal processing, and control circuits for data transmission and signal amplification.
The REF05CN8 voltage reference is a bipolar device which is divided into two sections: a supply section and a reference section. The supply section provides the current required for the reference section. This section includes a power supply decoupling circuit, a reference buffer, voltage regulators to limit errors, and a voltage overshoot protection circuit. The reference section, on the other hand, is responsible for the main task of outputting a stable voltage reference. It contains an operational amplifier, comparator, and an error monitor. This section also provides additional functions such as temperature compensation, low noise output, and temperature-coefficient control.
The device works as follows: the reference input voltage is compared to the operational amplifier which is set to a specific reference voltage. This reference voltage can be adjusted with a resistive divider in order to obtain the required output voltage. The output is then monitored by the error monitor and compared to the reference input voltage in order to detect errors. If the error exceeds the set limit then an over current protection circuit is activated and the device shuts down to prevent damage. The output can be then adjusted to the required value if required.
