RF Amplifiers

RF amplifiers play an important role in many electroniccircuits. They provide signal gain, allowing devices to communicateover longer distances, increase output power, and reduce signal-to-noise ratios. It is difficult to design such amplifiers, as they must includemany components in a small package that can operate efficiently overa wide temperature range. The RF5373 is a high-performance, low-power amplifier that meets these requirements, providing a highly efficient solution for applications where low distortion and wide bandwidth are essential.

Application Fields of RF5373

The RF5373 is designed to be used in a wide variety of applications such as base station front-ends, automotive infotainment systems, and consumer electronics. It provides a wide range of power levels, from less than 1 watt to over 5 watts in a single amplifier. This makes it an ideal choice for applications that require high efficiency and low distortion, including point-to-point communication equipment, cellular base stations, and transmitters used in wireless audio and video broadcasting. The amplifier also features a low input VSWR (1.25:1 typ), a low output VSWR (less than 1.25:1 typ.), and a wide power bandwidth (50MHz–2GHz).

Working Principle of RF5373

The RF5373 amplifiers typically employ an active bias source to provide power gain and high linearity. This makes them resistant to temperature-dependent changes in device performance. With the effects of thermal bias determined by the amount of bias current provided, additional circuitry and/or adjustments may be necessary to compensate for variations in bias temperature. The RF5373 booster amplifiers employ a Class-A/B architecture that minimizes distortion and enables linear operation. The amplifiers also feature a wide range of power gain, with the power output depending on the amount of applied bias current. For example, at 1V of DC bias voltage, the device can deliver up to +5dB gain. This enables higher levels of output power and wider signal bandwidths without sacrificing linearity and gain.

The amplifier also utilizes an unique intermodulation distortion cancellation topology. This is accomplished by the rearrangement of the amplifier\'s input and output stages. This reduces the effect of intermodulation distortion (IMD) and provides improved harmonic performance. The RF5373 is also well suited for use in applications that require an increased out of band rejection, as its Frequency Response Linearization feature compensates for the effects of non-linearity within the RF amplifier.

In addition, the RF5373 amplifier features two separate channels, allowing for simultaneous operation of two separate signals without the need for separate amplifiers. The amplifier also helps to reduce component count, with its integrated power supply and active bias circuity, eliminating the need for additional external components. The RF5373 amplifiers meet or exceed the stringent requirements of the Consumer Electronics Association\'s RoHS, PTOS, and Energy Star certification standards.

The RF5373 is an ideal choice for applications requiring high linearity and wide bandwidth, such as point-to-point communication equipment, cellular base stations, and transmitters used in wireless audio and video broadcasting. With its wide range of power gain and its low power dissipation, the amplifier is highly efficient and reliable, making it an ideal solution for low-noise applications.
