A rectifier is an electrical device that converts alternating current (AC), which periodically reverses direction, to direct current (DC), which flows in one direction. A rectifier can be made of a single diode, or several diodes connected in series or parallel. The RG10A-M3/73 series single phase bridge rectifier diode has a low VF, configured with an ultrafast recovery, and is designed for high power and high efficiency applications, providing a wide range of pin configurations and package types to meet the demands of various input voltages, current and power requirements.

The RG10A-M3/73 is an ideal choice for a myriad of applications in industrial, automotive, and communication systems, including power supplies, AC/DC adapters, LED lighting systems, computer hardware, HVAC and audio-video equipment.

Working Principle

A rectifier diode works by allowing current to flow in one direction and blocking current from flowing in the opposite direction. The direction is determined by the biasing voltage (or voltage across the diode), which has to exceed the forward voltage drop of the diode in order for current to flow. When the forward bias exceeds the forward voltage of the diode, the diode becomes forward-biased and allows current to flow. When there is no forward bias, or when the reverse bias exceeds the breakdown voltage of the diode, then the diode is closed and no current flows.

To achieve higher voltage and current ratings, several single phase bridge rectifier diodes are connected in series or in parallel. A full-wave bridge rectifier is a combination of four single phase diodes connected in the form of a Wheatstone bridge. This arrangement was named a full-wave bridge rectifier since it uses the entire AC voltage cycle and provides a full-wave DC output.
