The RM46L850PGET is a high performance, low power 32 bit Arm Cortex-M4 processor with Floating Point Unit (FPU) and DSP Engine for advanced Digital Signal Controllers (DSCs). This device combines the high performance of DSCs with low power consumption, which makes it ideal for applications that demand high levels of processing power in a low power environment. It also comes equipped with a wide range of other features such as advanced peripherals, real-time clock, and programmable EEPROM memory.

The RM46L850PGET is primarily used for embedded control applications, such as for motor control, automotive applications, industrial automation, robotics, and home automation. It is also used in other applications such as consumer electronics, communication infrastructure, and dedicated embedded systems.

Working Principle

The ARM Cortex-M4 processor provides the core processing performance with the ARM architecture, while the floating point unit (FPU) provides the support for single instruction multiple data (SIMD) instructions, as well as reduced latency on heavily pipelined instructions. The FPU is also capable of operating on vector quantities, which helps to reduce the workload of complex mathematical operations. The DSP Engine brings signal processing power to the RM46L850PGET, making it suitable for applications such as Digital Image Processing.

The RM46L850PGET is based on ARM core technology and contains four 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 cores, all of which can be set up independently, and connected by a high-speed on-chip interconnect system. These cores can be used for various tasks such as execution of application code, and firmware storage and execution.

The processor also contains a Real-Time Clock, an additional timer and an ADC. The peripheral system of the RM46L850PGET includes a UART, SPI, I2C, and general purpose I/O pins. Additionally, the device contains a hardware accelerator for AES encryption and decryption, as well as a 4K Direct Memory Access (DMA) unit to manage memory transfers.

The RM46L850PGET is further enhanced for the power-efficient designs by the ARM Cortex-M4F processor, which offers an enhanced instruction set and additional levels of low power support to improve both dynamic and static power consumption.

The device also offers an on-chip ROM to store program code and data, and a flexible power software framework that allows adaptive power and full control of the power modes of the processor – including the retention and burst modes. The Embedded Vectored Interrupt Controller (VEC) provides deterministic and low-latency interrupt handling.

In addition, the RM46L850PGET features a wide selection of on-board peripherals, including: a Real-Time Clock (RTC), four 32-bit timers, 32KB of on-chip SRAM and 64K of programmable EEPROM memory. These on-board peripherals are ideal for a variety of applications such as motor control, real-time clock, automation, and embedded system control.
