Working Principle

The RT6208GE is a DC-DC switching regulator whose working principle is based on step-down conversion or Buck conversion. It takes a higher input voltage and then converts it into a lower output voltage. Working of the RT6208GE as a DC-DC switching regulator can be split into two sections: The power stage and the control stage.

The power stage section consists of two MOSFETs, an inductor and diode. During the charging period, one MOSFET is turned on, thus allowing the current to flow and the current is stored in the inductor. During the discharging period, other MOSFET is in ON state, which allows the current to flow from inductor to diode, thus generating output to the load. During the off period, both the MOSFETs are turned off and no voltage is applied to the output load at this time.

The second section is the control section. It consists of few blocks such as reference, oscillator, current and temperature sensing, error amplifier, voltage regulator and logic control. The main purpose of the control section is to monitor the voltage loop, sense the current and temperature and then generate the performing waveform for controlling the power section MOSFETs.
