The RT8009GJ5 is a synchronous step-down DC/DC converter Integrated Circuit (IC) in the RT8009GJ5 family from Richtek. It is a PMIC (Power Management IC), supplying high efficiency DC/DC switching Voltage Regulation using either a Fixed frequency PWM or a PFM (Pulse Frequency Modulation) for maximum power conversion efficiency. RT8009GJ5 is classified as a DC DC Switching Regulator (DC/DC) belonging to Voltage Regulators.

RT8009GJ5 is an integrated solution which allows simplified design, as it can handle heat dissipation during operation, as well as provide a multiple output buck regulator from 4.5V to 18V input voltage range. It contains all relevant control circuitry for the step-down converter, including the Voltage feeding, switching FETs, Internal Regulator and power Rail.

Working Principle

The RT8009GJ5 is equipped with two synchronous buck it consists of one or two step-down regulators, one or two parallel rectifiers, a voltage feedback loop, a current control loop and a slew rate control loop. The voltage feedback loop regulates the output voltage, while the current control loop regulates the output current. The slew rate control loop reduces the current noise by increasing the switching frequency when load transients occured. When in PWM mode, the power switching transistors are activated in turns, generating a square wave when the output voltage is regulated. In PFM mode, the power transistors are activated one by one and the switch time is adapted according to the current level.
