PTC Resettable Fuses are electronic circuit protection devices designed to protect circuits from overcurrent and overtemperature conditions. RUSB185 stands for "Resettable Ultrasonic Switch with 185-Watt rating" and is designed to monitor electric current and turn off a circuit when the current exceeds a specified limit. The RUSB185 is designed to protect both AC and DC circuits against overcurrent and over temperature conditions. The working principle of the RUSB185 is based on a temperature-sensitive polymer, a type of material that changes its electrical properties when heated above a certain temperature, known as the trip temperature. When the temperature of the PTC resettable fuse rises above a predetermined level, the polymer will swell, causing a decrease in its electrical resistance. This decrease in resistance will cause an increase in the current through the resistor, thereby tripping the circuit.When a circuit is tripped, the energy stored in the resistor is released as heat, further increasing the temperature of the PTC resettable fuse. This will cause the polymer to swell further, increasing the electrical resistance and ultimately causing the circuit to open. After a certain amount of time, the temperature of the PTC resettable fuse will cool down to below its trip temperature, allowing the polymer to return to its original shape and allowing the circuit to reset.In addition to overcurrent and overtemperature protection, the RUSB185 can also be used to limit the amount of energy a circuit can safely receive. This is done by controlling the maximum current that a circuit can draw before the PTC resettable fuse will trip. This will help to protect the circuit from being overloaded by a large current draw, thus keeping it from being damaged due to excessive current.The RUSB185 is relatively easy to install and use.
