A positive voltage applied to the gate triggers the SCR and allows a large current to flow from the anode to the cathode, triggering the control gate and allowing the current to continue to flow even if the gate voltage is removed. This results in latching-type operation and the SCR acts like a closed switch.

In operation, the pinout of the S6006LTP is a standard three-terminal SCR, with the anode labelled A, the cathode labelled C, and the gate labelled G. When no voltage is applied to the gate, the device is OFF. Once a positive voltage is applied to the gate, the device will turn ON and the voltage at the anode will drop.
