Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) diodes are used to protect equipment from transient events, such as electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical fast transients (EFT), and lightning-induced surge transients. SA48AG TVS diode is designed to protect coaxial cables, including cables used for antenna installations, LANs, CATV, satellite receivers and more. SA48AG offers low capacitance and a 500W peak pulse power capability.

The SA48AG consists of two major components: a semiconductor and a chip package isolated from each other. The semiconductor consists of a central n-region surrounded by a p-type layer. The chip package is a low-thermal-resistance black-glass-filled polycarbonate housing. The housing contains Zener diodes, which provide the necessary breakdown voltage.

The SA48AG is constructed as a series diode with rectifying Schottky diodes in parallel to reduce the switching noise generated during transient events. When the power is turned off, the device shifts into auto-trigger mode, protecting the system from overcurrent and overvoltage. During normal operation, the device shifts into a more effective protective mode, protecting the system from harmful transient conditions.
