SA56-21CGKWA is a display module from the LED Numeric Character family and it is used primarily for displaying numerical data or characters. It is ideal for displaying digits in schools, laboratories, workshops, factories and for other data display applications.

SA56-21CGKWA consists of two 7-segment displays which are commonly known as Common Cathode type. Its 7-segment displays are connected in single row configuration. Common Cathode type 7-segment display has its cathode pin common, that is, all the cathode pins are connected to each other and the segment pins are connected to the emitter of the transistor and the collector pin is connected to the logic input pin. The arrangement of the 7-segment displays is made such that the two displays can display two different characters at the same time.

The working principle of the SA56-21CGKWA is based upon the usage of the 7-segment displays. Each 7-segment display consists of 8 pins, which are the segment pins, minus the cathode pin. A current is passed from the ground to the segment pins when the logic inputs are set to high voltage level. This current enables the logic circuit which is responsible for displaying the digits or characters, depending upon the logic inputs. The logic inputs are fed to the logic circuit which enables only the segments required to form the digit or character which is to be displayed. The segment pins are then connected to the LED\'s which are used to indicate on the 7-segment display which is necessary to form the required characters or digits.
