TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diodes are electronic components used to protect against electrical high voltage transients, usually from large lightning surges or currents. The SAC5.0-B is a member of TVS diode family and it comes in a 5.0mm by 5.5mm SMC (Surface Mount Component) package. It can be mounted directly on a circuit board and can be used to protect against Lightning Induced Transients (LIT), ElectroMagnetic Interference (EMI) and ElectroStatic Discharge (ESD).
The SAC5.0-B is designed to withstand high voltages and currents; it has a lower operating voltage than many other transient protection diodes and this allows it to be used in applications where a low DC voltage needs to be provided. It is also designed to provide a high level of surge protection, with a break-over voltage of up to 500 V. The SAC5.0-B has an operating range of -55°C to +125°C and can handle a maximum surge power of 400W (20A x 40V). It is able to handle up to 100A of current for pulses of 10uS or shorter.
