Diodes - Rectifiers - Single : SB150TA application field and working principle
Sb150TA is a surface mount, single-phase rectifier bridge, which is widely used in the fields of switching power supply, motor converting power and high frequency power transformer. It is high performance diode bridge with a maximum average forward current (IF(AV)) of 2A and a maximum reverse voltage (VR) of 1000V. It\'s an ideal bridge for AC circuit applications like SMT transformer and converter.
SB150TA has three port configurations, simple1~2, 1~3 and 2~4, depending on the application. In some cases, it\'s best to use a 4-port configuration, e.g. Two windings can be connected via two 2 ~ 4 rectifier bridges, and the two ports of each bridge can be connected together.
The working principle of SB150TA is based on the four independent power diodes connected in a bridge arrangement. Each diode can conduct current in only one direction, therefore a polarity difference of the input AC voltage must be applied across the inputs to the bridge for current to flow.
The voltage drop across the bridge is used to control the output current of the bridge, and the output current can be controlled by changing the voltage drop. When the voltage drop is high, the amount of current flowing through the bridge is high, and when the voltage drop is low, the amount of current flowing through the bridge is low.
If a DC voltage is applied to the output of the bridge, the diodes act as a rectifier and convert the AC voltage to a DC voltage. The output voltage will be the average of the two input voltages, and the voltage drop across the bridge will be the difference between the two input voltages.
When the input AC voltage is above the forward breakdown voltage of the bridge, the diodes will turn on and the current will start to flow through the bridge. This process is called the "breakover" or the "reverse breakdown" of the bridge. The current through the bridge will be limited by the resistance of the bridge and by the value of the source voltage.
The bridge will also be protected from damage due to over current through the use of an overcurrent protection device. This device will sense the current through the bridge and will shut off the current flow when the current increases above a predetermined value.
