The SB540A-E3/54 is a general-purpose Silicon Rectifier. Built from a single piece of semiconductor material, it is designed to conduct in one direction, blocking the flow in the opposite direction. Rectifiers have a wide variety of uses, from converting AC to DC (which can then be use to power loads like motors, resistors and LEDs), providing protection from voltage spikes, and from controlling power in low-voltage applications like LED lighting.
