SB540A-E3/73 is a single rectifier diode developed by STMicroelectronics. It is designed to handle currents up to 5 Amp with a peak repetitive reverse voltage of 600V which makes it ideal for a variety of power switch-mode applications and other general purpose rectifier applications. It features a high frequency switching capability, low leakage current and low forward voltage drop.
Application Field
SB540A-E3/73 is widely used in a variety of power switch-mode applications, such as switching power supplies, DC-DC converters, uninterruptible power supplies, motor drives, and power over Ethernet applications. Additionally, this diode is widely used as a general-purpose rectifier for many different applications such as lighting, air conditioning and industrial equipment.
Working Principle
A rectifier diode is an electronic component that allows current to flow in only one direction, from the anode to the cathode. The SB540A-E3/73 is a silicon-based rectifier diode, which means that when forward-biased, current can flow through the diode in only one direction, as it is pulled away from the anode surface and towards the cathode. This is also known as positive potential operation. When reverse-biased, the diode is essentially blocked and current will not flow. This is also known as negative potential operation. The SB540A-E3/73 is designed to handle reverse voltages up to 600V, to ensure a safe operation. The SB540A-E3/73 also features a low forward voltage drop of approximately 1.05V, as well as a high frequency switching capability, which allows for higher power switching applications. These features also make it ideal for use in power over Ethernet applications, where high speed data transfer and low power consumption is critical.
