The SBR30E45CTB is a diode array, which is a semiconductor device composed of several diodes connected together in one package. Compared to single diodes, diode arrays are able to offer identical, substantial voltage and current ratings, better thermal stability, and higher efficiency. The SBR30E45CTB, in particular, is a common-cathode, fast-, ultrafast- and very-fast-recovery diode array that is available in a 1.6A current-carrying capability. It is intended for use in high-efficiency bridge rectifier, freewheeling and polarization applications.

Working Principle

A diode array works by allowing current to flow in only one direction - from the anode to the cathode and not in the opposite direction. When current flows in the correct direction, the device acts as a closed switch, turning on and allowing electricity to pass through. When current flows in the wrong direction, the device acts as an open switch, shutting off and blocking electricity from passing through. The SBR30E45CTB is a common-cathode device, meaning that the cathode is connected to the anode of all diodes in the array. This makes it ideal for use in bridge rectifier applications.

The SBR30E45CTB is what is known as a fast-, ultrafast- and very-fast-recovery diode array. This means that instead of the more traditional slow-recovery diodes, these devices are capable of quickly transitioning from the forward bias state (on) to the reverse bias state (off). This makes them perfect for high-efficiency applications that require frequent on-off switching of the current.
