SF2073B applications and working principle

Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filters, also known as Surface Wave filters or acoustic filters, are specialized filters used to select or reject a specified band of frequencies. A SAW filter is a compact and lightweight filtering device composed of two transducers, or piezoelectric crystals, a signal delay line and interconnecting electrodes. SF2073B is a high performance SAW filter device used to filter FM radio in mobile communication or wireless communication devices. The SF2073B contains 3 separate filters in one package. Each filter has a bandwidth of 200kHz and thus, three filters total gives a bandwidth of 600kHz. This increases the flexibility of the design and also reduces the cost and weight of the device. The SF2073B is labeled as a high performance device due to its excellent insertion loss of 1.0dB or less in the pass band and -50dB or better in the stop band. When the delay is equal to the half of the excitation frequency (or the frequency of the input signal), resonance occurs and the output signal is amplified. The patterned conductive layer thus acts as a frequency-selective maze, thus rejecting or accepting the incoming signal as desired. The SF2073B is a perfect filter for applications like FM broadcast receiver, GSM/EDGE/WCDMA and other wireless communication systems. It\'s low cost, small size and weight coupled with excellent performance makes it an ideal choice for compact, high performance designs that require low power consumption and a wide bandwidth.
