Inrush Current Limiters (ICL) are a type of protection device used to avert excess current with an instantaneous value above that expected in normal start-up or operation, a phenomenon known as inrush. This type of current can overload circuit breakers, damage mechanical switches, or cause power problems. An effective way to prevent inrush current is the use of an Inrush Current Limiter (ICL). The SG200 ICL is a silicon controlled rectifier-based active device designed to limit the current at power up, during operation or at failure. Once the inrush current is stabilized, a control circuit is activated to allow the supply of power to the load and to maintain a stable voltage across it. The thermal element is re-energized, and the control circuit is reset when the temperature drops.
