SG2524DRE4 is a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controller designed in CMOS process technology that is suitable for low power applications. It is part of Microchip’s 1.8V SG2524 family of devices and is designed for 12V DC-DC voltage conversion, specifically intended for the Power Management IC (PMIC) market.SG2524DRE4 is a synchronous (buck) voltage regulator controller that operates over a wide range of input and output voltages. It is ideal for applications that require a wide input/output voltage range, such as computer motherboard power supplies, notebook power supplies, and printer power supplies. It also has an integrated sleep mode that enables low power consumption. Other features include built-in protection mechanisms such as a UVLO (Under Voltage Lock Out) protection, over-voltage protection and over-current protection circuit.
The SG2524DRE4 device provides excellent stability and regulation of bipolar regulated outputs. Using it, the output is usually adjusted by varying the duty cycle of the pulse width modulated signal. In a buck configuration, the SG2524DRE4 device is used to change a source of higher voltage and current to a lower voltage and current. Using a Schottky diode (or MOSFET) as a rectifier, a high current capacitor helps to store energy during the switching cycle, and a low pass filter (L-C) converts the rectified voltage to an output voltage. During the switching cycle, the SG2524DRE4 device charges the main inductor and the high current capacitor. The process continues until a constant voltage is provided to the load at a predetermined frequency and duty cycle. The selection of the components used for filtering and ripple control determines the characteristics of the output voltage. The SG2524DRE4 device is usually powered from an external 12V voltage source, however, if a higher voltage is needed, the device can be paralleled with other SG2524DRE4 devices.
The SG2524DRE4 device has been designed to be used for a variety of DC-DC voltage conversion applications. It is ideal for the cost-sensitive segment of the Power Management IC (PMIC) market.
