Humidity and moisture sensing technology has been one of the most important technologies for decades. The SI7013-A20-GM1R is a high performance and cost effective humidity sensor which has been developed to make use of the latest advances in the field. The SI7013-A20-GM1R is a capacitively coupled humidity and temperature sensor that utilizes a single layer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) material. The SI7013-A20-GM1R has a monolithic structure design consisting of two separate elements, a capacitor and a resistor. Each of these elements is arranged in a particular configuration, as shown in the figure.

The capacitor is the sensing element and is formed by two conductive layers on a flexible polycarbonate substrate. The layers are separated from each other by a thin polymer layer. The sensing layer is coated with a moisture resistant material such as glass fiber, which protects the sensing element from corrosion and dust. The resistor element is made up of a ceramic body. The resistor and the capacitor are electrically connected through a bridge circuit, forming a bridge bridge resistance.

The SI7013-A20-GM1R produces a resistance/capacitance (RC) output that is proportional to the environmental relative humidity (RH). The humidity and temperature measurements are provided on separate data pins (pins 5 and 6). The output sensitivity to humidity is linear in the range of 0-100%, with a maximum reading of 1024 units (10-bit resolution). The sampling rate of the device can be adjusted by an external resistor (RS).

The SI7013-A20-GM1R has a wide operating temperature range from 0°C to 60°C. It is designed to be used in both indoor and outdoor applications ranging from irrigation systems, HVAC systems, houses, greenhouses, and industrial processes.
