The SI82390AD-IS is a gate driver from the Isolators - Gate Drivers family. It is a dual, non-inverting, high current bidirectional gate driver which is designed to drive Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs) or other high power semiconductors. It offers high voltage and current capability in an isolated package that operates with a wide supply range and is fully compatible with all major IGBT and high voltage MOSFET technologies.

Application Field

The SI82390AD-IS can be used in a variety of applications from high power motor control to solar inverter and uninterruptible power supply systems. Its wide operating voltage range makes it suitable for high-power applications such as motor drive amplifiers, motor control transformers, H-bridge motor drives, induction heating, photovoltaic inverters, and wind turbine inverters. Working Principle

The SI82390AD-IS utilizes an isolated double gate commutation technique to perform its gate driver function. This technique makes use of two independent gate drivers, one for high-side and one for low-side, which are connected by means of a low resistance galvanic link or zener diode bridged gate-grounding resistor. When the two gate drivers are triggered, the associated circuitry creates a current pulse that flows through the low resistance galvanic link or zener diode. This pulse, which is created when current flows from the gate of one IGBT to the gate of the other IGBT, acts as a trigger to the other gate driver, thus allowing for transfers between the two IGBTs.

The SI82390AD-IS delivers high-side and low-side gate drive currents up to 12.4A and 9.2A respectively while allowing operating voltages up to 600V. It is designed to be compatible with any logic specification from 1.2V to 5V. It has a high current capability, with an output peak current up to 24A, and can be configured as either a low side or a high side driver. It also features an overtemperature and undervoltage lockout protection circuit which shuts down the device if the junction temperature of the IGBTs exceeds its threshold or if the voltage supply drops below the set threshold.

The SI82390AD-IS has several characteristics which make it suitable for use in high power systems. It features a fast rise time of 2.7ns, low quiescent current, fast propagation delay, and a wide operating temperature range from -40°C to 150°C. It also features a built-in fast short circuit protection circuit which automatically shuts down the device when the output current of the driver reaches an excessive level. Finally, it offers a wide operating supply voltage range from 6V to 24V, making it suitable for use in many different applications.
