SK26-LTP application field and working principle

The SK26-LTP is a high efficiency, low leakage current, single-phase rectifier Diode. Its unique interface design consists of temperature independent current rectifying elements, resulting in a remarkable performance in the range of up to 50 V. This highly comparable product is mainly used in general power supplies and applications in which efficient and reliable rectification is required.

The working principle of the SK26-LTP rectifier diode is to allow the current to flow in one direction only. It consists of two semiconductor layers of opposite conductive type. When a positive voltage is applied to the anode (N-type), electrons from the N-type layer repel the electrons from the P-type layer and the current is limited to a single direction by the depletion region formed between the two layers. This way, the current flowing through the device will be limited to the direction to which the voltage is applied.

The SK26-LTP rectifier diode works as follows: when a positive voltage is applied to the anode, current starts to flow through the diode towards the cathode. Since the P-type layer contains majority carriers and the N-type layer has majority carriers, the electrons from the N-type layer are attracted and will repel the electrons from the P-type layer, and the current is limited to a single direction due to the depletion region formed between the two layers. The current is diverted from the P-type layer towards the N-type layer and flows until the cathode. At the same time, the current from the N-type layer is diverted towards the P-type layer, reducing the resistance of the depletion region and allowing the current to continue to flow. This way, the current continues to flow in a single direction.

The SK26-LTP rectifier diodes are designed for an operating temperature range of –40°C to +125°C. The maximum current peak is 40 A with an average forward current of 5A, and a peak reverse voltage of 75 V.
