Diodes are electronic components that permit current to flow in one direction only, acting as a one-way valve for electrons. Rectifiers are Diode based circuits which are primarily used to convert Alternating Current (AC) to Direct Current (DC). Single rectifiers, in the form of a bridge rectifier for instance, are the simplest form of rectifiers, consisting of only four Diodes. Common applications for Single Rectifiers include smoothing DC power for electronics, and converting low voltage AC to higher voltage DC for powering equipment such as industrial heaters and motors.
SK26-TP is a Single Rectifier Diode, more specifically its designation is an axial leaded discrete type of Diode. The application field of SK26-TP is broad, with particular focus on utility and industrial DC power supplies, aerospace, telecommunications and standard AC/DC rectification. The device is designed to be used in low frequency, high voltage applications and can be used in power supplies and motor drives with input voltages as high as 500 volts.
SK26-TP has a current range of up to 35mA and peak repetitive reverse voltage (PRV) of 500V. The component has an average forward current of 25mA and a reverse current at the rated forward voltage of below 5mA, both of which makes it suitable for low voltage applications. Additionally, SK26-TP has a non-repetitive peak surge current of 4.5A and an operation temperature range from -40°C to +120°C, this makes it suitable for many extreme environmental applications. Furthermore, its junction capacitance is 29pF and its resistance to heat shock is superior allowing for better performance and greater durability.
The working principle of SK26-TP is fairly simple and is based on the underlying principles of Diode rectifiers. All four Diodes of the SK26-TP are connected in a bridge configuration, meaning that two of the Diodes are forward biased while the other two are reverse-biased. Whenever an AC signal is applied to the input side of the bridge, the voltage on the main power output is rectified, meaning that the Alternate Current is converted to Direct Current as the two forward-biased Diodes allow the current to flow in only one direction.
The SK26-TP is designed to work with voltages as high as 500V, however the Diodes in the bridge configuration must be able to withstand this voltage without breaking down. All four Diodes of the SK26-TP need to be identical and have the same high blocking voltage rating in order to ensure that all four will be able to withstand the 500V applied to the input side of the rectifier. The junction between the Diodes has to be polarized as this will determine the voltage at which the Diodes will conduct and from which point the Diodes will block, allowing current to flow in only one direction.
In conclusion, SK26-TP is a Single Rectifier Diode suitable for a wide range of applications. It has a current and peak reverse voltage range of 35mA and 500V, which along with its superior heat shock resistance and junction capacitance, makes it suitable for industrial, aerospace and telecommunications purposes. The working principle of SK26-TP is based on the bridge rectifier configuration of four identical Diodes, two forward biased and two reverse biased, to allow current to flow in only one direction and convert alternating current to direct current.
