Introduction

SL03-GS18 is one of the most commonly used diodes today. It is a special type of diode that is used in many applications from rectifying AC/DC current to switching power electronics. The SL03-GS18 diode is composed of two semiconductor layers made of silicon. It has a low forward voltage drop and a very fast switching speed. It is suitable for different kinds of applications, such as high frequency converters, automotive systems, motor drives and power supplies.

Application

SL03-GS18 diode can be used in diverse applications with different functions, such as rectifying AC waveform and converting AC to DC, clamping spikes or ringing waveforms, voltage isolation and current limiting. The diode only allows the half of the cycle waveforms passing through the diode and the half-cycle waveforms that passes through the diode is forced to flow in the same direction, resulting in the flow of the direct current.In voltage isolation application, the SL03-GS18 diode is used in order to isolate voltage. A voltage clamp is formed when the diode works as a unidirectional switch. The diode will only allow the voltage above a certain threshold and will block the voltage below that threshold. This is useful when two or more power supplies are required to work in the same system and any leakage of one of them should be blocked to protect the other supplies.In current limiting application, the SL03-GS18 diode is used to prevent overcurrent. The diode will block any current above a certain value and prevent any overcurrent from flowing through the system, thus protecting the system from any overcurrent damage.

Working Principle

The SL03-GS18 diode acts as a unidirectional switch. The anode of the diode is connected to the positive voltage, while the cathode of the diode is connected to the negative voltage.
