Inrush current limiters (ICLs) are electronic components which limit the inrush current when power is applied. They are used in many applications where high inrush currents could cause damage. The SL08 10001-A is an inrush current limiter developed to protect electromechanical devices from overstressing due to an initial inrush of current. This device employs a time-dependent solid state switch to accomplish its inrush current limitation.

The SL08 10001-A is designed to efficiently reduce high inrush current levels, while allowing normal circuit operation once the inrush is complete. It has an adjustable range from 0.1 to 10A, and an adjustable voltage range from 200V to 500V. This device is capable of limiting the inrush current by up to 80%, which is 4 times faster than typical inrush current limiters. The device also has an LED that lights up when it has limited the current. This feature allows the user to verify that the device is functioning correctly.

The working principle of an inrush current limiter is usually based on an insulation breakdown effect. When the voltage across the device exceeds its breakdown voltage, the current is limited and the voltage is clamped to a certain level.
