Inrush current is a surge current that occurs at the moment of electric power supply to all kinds of electrical equipment. It is necessary to limit inrush current of electrical loads to protect them from damage, system stability and to reduce voltage fluctuation. To mitigate the inrush current, Inrush Current Limiters (ICL) are used.

SL15 2R507 is an Inrush Current Limiter produced by Bourns Inc. The component features a low resistance, temperature coefficient and precision, together with high power dissipation. SL15 2R507 has an operating temperature range of -55°C to 125°C.The resistance of this component can be adjusted from 20Ω to 40Ω. It is ideal for applications such as computer motherboards, automotive powertrain assemblies, automotive lighting power supply, power cord assemblies, telecommunications equipment, and portable electronic devices.

The working principle of SL15 2R507 is based on the sensing of a surge current by its internal Nickel-Chromium resistor. Consequently, the resistance of the resistor increases, limiting the inrush current before it reaches the equipment. After the surge current passes, the temperature of the resistor reduces and reaches its original resistance again.
