Working Principle

SL5500SD optoisolators work by using a LED (light emitting diode) and a phototransistor to transfer a signal or power between circuits without the second circuit impacting the first. The LED serves as an emitter, releasing photons which then trigger the phototransistor on the opposite side.

The phototransistor converts these photons into an electric signal. This signal is then sent to the second circuit, where it’s converted into a voltage or current to power it. This type of optoisolator offers both electrical and optical isolation between circuits, so even if there are large voltage differences between the two circuits, the signal or power will still be transferred safely and accurately.
