SLD36-018 Application Field and Working Principle
TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressors) diodes are protective components that limit or dissipate surge currents in circuits. They work by shunting voltage transients away from sensitive components, thereby protecting them from damage. The SLD36-018 is a bidirectional datasheet voltage suppressor designed for a wide range of applications.The SLD36-018 is constructed from two sets of three back-to-back, bisected low-leakage, low forward voltage Zener diodes. These diodes are arranged in a bipolar transistor-like configuration which, when triggered by a transient overvoltage, clamps the voltage level at the maximum VCL level (clamping voltage) of +/− 18 V. The SL36-018 is capable of dissipating up to 36W. It also features a low reverse leakage current of 1mA and a minimum breakdown voltage of 28V. This makes it ideal for a wide range of applications, such as overvoltage protection for power supplies, processors, and integrated circuits - as well as providing bias, reverse bias, and transient voltage protection for transistors and thyristors. The SL36-018 also features a low capacitance, enhancing the device’s performance in high-frequency clamping applications. It is also an excellent choice for applications where surge protection and high-efficiency transient voltage clamping are required.The SL36-018 works by acting as a current-limiting component, diverting a fraction of the overvoltage away from sensitive components when triggered. This occurs in one of two ways: either by conducting the surge current away from critical components (for bidirectional transients), or by shunting the transient current to ground (for unidirectional transients). When triggered by a transient overvoltage, the SL36-018 will clamp the voltage level to its maximum VCL of +/−18V, after which the radio frequency interference (RFI) suppression characteristic of the device is activated, helping to further reduce any interference from the event. The SLD36-018 is an excellent choice for a wide range of applications where high-efficiency transient voltage protection is required.
