TVS-Diodes: The Application Field and Working Principle of the SLD36CA-TP

The SLD36CA-TP, also known as a Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diode, is a semiconductor device which is designed to protect electronic equipment from over-voltage transients created by electrical or electrostatic discharges. These discharges may be initiated by lightning, inductive load switching, and short-circuiting.

The SLD36CA-TP is designed to protect both AC and DC circuits from over-voltage transients. It utilizes a Zener diode and a sacrificial silicon diode connected in a back-to-back arrangement. The SLD36CA-TP is available in two leaded packages, the SOD-323 and the SOD-123.
