Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors are passive electronic components, identified by their low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) and significant capacitance. SLPX183M016E3P3 is a series of chip-type aluminum electrolytic capacitors produced by Suntan, China’s leading capacitor manufacturer.

Features

The SLPX183M016E3P3 Capacitor is a miniature size, low profile, and self-healing electrolytic capacitor type known as a Snap-in or Saddle type, revealing two flat pole ends within the body structure. It is a radial, axial-leaded, aluminum electrolytic capacitor with a cylindrical aluminum canister with the copper connection leads coupled on the side. The capacitor can work in a temperature range of -40 °C to +105°C and is designed to work on Low AC or DC voltages from 4V to 50V. The size for this series is 3x7x2.0 mm and the capacitance ranges from 10 uF to 470 uF.

Applications

SLPX183M016E3P3 capacitors are mainly used in electronic circuits for energy storage. It is an ideal pass component option for general purpose applications in wide temperature range, and small sized circuit boards or electronic devices such as linear power supplies, telecoms, computers, circuit design, instrumentation, consumer electronics and so on. Meanwhile, these capacitors may also be used for filtering, decoupling, bypassing and coupling applications.

Working principle

SLPX183M016E3P3 Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors are designed with a liquid-like porous material coated onto a thin aluminum foil sheets. The construction of the SLPX183M016E3P3 capacitor comprises of two chemically-treated aluminum foils, one coated with a material that serves as the Cathode and the other trimmed down into strips or into mesh pattern and serves as the Anode. A thin oxide layer is formed over the surface of the Cathode as a result of a chemical reaction between the electrolyte and the Anode, which acts like an insulator. A spacer is then inserted between the Cathode and the Anode to maintain optimal spacing between, increasing its dielectric strength.

Once the capacitor is connected in the circuit, the current flows in the Cathode, from one foil end to the other, creating a voltage field that stores electrons in the region between the Anode and the Cathode plates. This voltage field is what produces the electric energy that is stored in the capacitor. When the electricity is connected in reverse, the capacitor discharges its electrons until the voltage field is eliminated or further reversed.
