The SM16LC08E3/TR13 is a transistor–transistor logic (TTL) diode array produced by ROHM Semiconductor. It is a surface-mount semiconductor device designed for surface-mounted applications such as automotive and consumer electronics. This diode array belongs to the TVS (transient voltage suppression) family of diodes since it prevents power surge or peaks from passing through it and protecting circuitry or equipment from damage.Overview
The SM16LC08E3/TR13 is designed to protect against power surges in TTL and CMOS gate circuits, with transient voltage up to 8V absolute maximum. Its compact package accommodates 8-channels of the same polarity, making it suitable for applications requiring multiple high-side protectors such as automotive, consumer and industrial applications. It has a low clamping voltage which ensures minimum overshoot, fast response times, and low power consumption.Technology
The SM16LC08E3/TR13 features a surge absorption technology which utilizes a VCL (Voltage Clamping Layer) and a TCL (Transient Current Layer). The VCL helps in suppressing transient voltage, while the TCL reduces transient current by providing snubbing characteristics. This unique combination of two systems helps in providing maximum protection against power surges and preventing TVS–diodes from being damaged.Features
The SM16LC08E3/TR13 features an operating voltage from 2.3V to 16V, an operating temperature from -55oC to 155oC, and a response time of less than 5ns. It also has an operating current of 15mA and a power dissipation of 1W. The diode array has a unimodal ESD protection which can protect against typical ESD pulses up to 8kV (HBM in accordance with IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4).Functionality
The SM16LC08E3/TR13 provides protection in both directions and offers differential mode suppression for low frequency surges. It has a low gate capacitance and delay time to ensure fast switching times and minimal power consumption. The diode also has very low leakage current which ensures the voltage across it remains constant during operation.Applications
The SM16LC08E3/TR13 can be used in high-voltage, high-current automotive systems such as engine control, starter motor, and airbag systems. It is also suitable for consumer, medical and industrial applications which require a reliable surge protection and an ultra-low capacitance.
