The SMAJ10CHE3/61 is a surface mount, two terminal unidirectional transient voltage suppressor manufactured by the Taiwan Semiconductor Company. It is the latest edition of voltage suppressor, designed to provide a high level of protection against electrostatic discharge (ESD) and other transient voltage events. The device is available in a compact SOT-23 package and is rated up to 10V.

Working Principle

The SMAJ10CHE3/61 utilizes a avalanche breakdown diode to suppress a wide variety of transient voltages. When a positive-going transien voltage is applied to the diode, the current increases exponentially due to the increased resistance of the diode. This rapid current flow causes the diode to eventually reach its avalanche breakdown voltage, which is the device\'s rated suppression voltage. At this voltage, a conducting path is formed, allowing for a controlled current flow through the diode, thus protecting against the transient voltage. Upon the transient voltage\'s disapperance, the diode resumes its normal nonconducting state, thus restoring normal circuit operation.
