DescriptionThe SMAJ75CA is a transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diode. It is designed to protect electronic devices from electrical surges, such as those caused by surges in power supplies, lightning, and electrostatic discharge (ESD). It is also used to reduce ringing and glitches caused by EMI/RFI interference. This diode has a low operating voltage of 75 volts and a maximum reverse bias of avalanche breakdown of 400 volts. The SMAJ75CA is widely used in automotive applications due to its fast response times.Working PrincipleThe SMAJ75CA is an unidirectional diode, which means that current can only flow through it in one direction. When the diode is connected to a power supply, it functions like a reverse-biased semiconductor diode; current cannot flow in the reverse direction. However, if a surge of voltage or current is applied to the diode, the reverse bias voltage can increase until a threshold reverse voltage is reached.
