Working Principle

TVS Diodes work by using a bidirectional Thyristor to absorb the voltage spike, turning it into a short circuit that is redirected away from the main circuit. Once the Thyristor is activated, the diode will start to conduct and allow the current to flow through it. As the voltage spike dissipates, the Thyristor will gradually return to its off-state prompting the diode to become non-conductive again and allowing the circuit to revert to normal.

The SMBJ16A-13-F TVS diode has integrated back-to-back dual Thyristors for improved clamping performance and higher surge capability. Its PTC design allows for better heat dissipation than other TVS diodes.
