Transient Voltage Suppression Diodes (TVS) are integrated circuit devices that protect electronic circuits from Voltage Transient, electrical discharges, surges, and overvoltage conditions. The SMBJ40CA-Q is a unidirectional type voltage-suppressing diode made up of both a PN and a NPN semiconductor junction diode. It protects user\'s delicate electronic systems from voltage transients and ESD (electrostatic discharge).The Working Principle of the SMBJ40CA-Q TVS - Diode
A Transient Specialty Diode like the SMBJ40CA-Q is a sensitive device equipment for protecting your delicate electronic systems from voltage transients and ESD (electrostatic discharge). It can improve the device\'s electrical performance and resistance to adverse voltage conditions. The SMBJ40CA-Q has two specially proportioned PNs and a single NPN junction diode assembly, which work together to protect the electronic systems from voltage transients and ESDs. The PN junction diodes are proportioned differently, with the NPN junction diode positioned in between the two PNs positions. There is also an unique screening method which denotes the type and capability of the device. The SMBJ40CA-Q uses binary screening, which means it applies a multiple screening method to the component to identify its capability. When subjected to voltage transients or ESD, SMBJ40CA-Q will immediately activate its NPN semiconductor junction diode which quenches the electrical charge, and thus providing protection to the delicate electronic system from voltage transients and ESDs. However, depending on the levels of its ESD and voltage transients, the NPN will eventually become saturated or burnt if the currents remain too high.
