This allows the current to pass from the positive side of the circuit to the negative side. Similarly, when the forward voltage is lower than the zener voltage, the diode acts as a reverse-biased diode, and no current will flow. This bi-directional behavior enables the SMBJ5949A/TR13 to be used in a variety of applications.In addition to its bi-directional property, the SMBJ5949A/TR13 also has a built-in avalanche property that effectively limits the voltage on the diode by protecting it from excessively high voltages.
