SMBJ75

Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) Diodes are semiconductor diodes used for protection against transient voltage spikes in electronic circuits. The SMBJ75 series of TVS diodes are designed to protect sensitive components such as microprocessors and other sensitive electronic components from indirect lightning strikes and other transient voltage spikes.

The SMBJ75 is a bi-directional diode that features a low reverse leakage current, a low capacitance, small physical size and a fast response time. It is designed to protect components from transient voltage spikes as high as 75 volts in peak pulse currents up to 2500 amperes.

The high-pulse capability and very low leakage current of the SMBJ75 make it ideal for protection against electromagnetic interference and power line disturbances. The low profile package of the SMBJ75 also makes it suitable for use on high density circuit boards where other types of devices may not fit.

The SMBJ75 is a dual diode that features a symmetrical breakdown voltage of 15 volts, an off-state capacitance of 4.7 pF (positive and negative directions) and a peak surge current rating of 5000A for 8/20μs. This makes the SMBJ75 highly reliable for protection against both slow and fast voltage transients.

In addition to the protection function of the SMBJ75, the device is also useful in other applications such as AC/DC overvoltage protection, cable discharge events protection (ESD), and clamping applications. The device also provides excellent protection for high speed data signals, analog circuit designs, and in communications applications.

The SMBJ75 is based on a Zener and avalanche breakdown structure, meaning that the breakdown voltage can be adjusted by changing the levels of both the Zener and the avalanche breakdown structures. This allows for different breakdown voltages for different applications which require a specific breakdown voltage level.

The working principle of the SMBJ75 is simple. When a transient voltage spike occurs, the Zener diode will reach its threshold voltage and the avalanche diode will immediately switch on. The diode will then absorb the energy of the transient voltage spike, dissipating it as heat. The Zener diode then switches off again and the transient voltage spike dissipates.

The SMBJ75 is an excellent device for protection against transient voltage spikes due to its low capacitance, fast response time and high-voltage rating. The device can be used to protect a wide range of electronic components from damage due to the destructive effects of fast transients.
