Working Principle:
In operation, the SMCJ1.5KE27A-TP device is designed to bridge a threshold voltage between the input and output terminals, and trigger a voltage clamping action when the trigger voltage exceeds the level set by the design. When a surge of excessive voltage is applied to the device, the typically low internal capacitance allows the device to act like an open switch, protecting the circuit from the surge. The device then acts as a low impedance path, diverting excessive energy to ground.
In addition, these devices are rated to protect existing equipment from a variety of transient voltage events, including exceeding the rated peak pulse voltage, exceeding the rated breakdown voltage and over-loading current ratings. The device also features a low clamping voltage and low clamping energy.
