SMCJ10ATR TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diodes are integrated circuits developed for protecting electronic equipment from over-voltage and over-current events. They are designed to provide a reliable protection against voltage spikes, lightning, electrostatic discharges, and other transient phenomena. The SMCJ10ATR TVS diode provides up to 40V of transient voltage protection and can dissipate up to 400W of power in an instant.
The SMCJ10ATR is a unidirectional diode featuring fast response time and reverse voltage protection of up to 40V. It is designed with a two-stage clamp, which provides high surge capacity with both fast and slow recovery time. The SMCJ10ATR includes a protected input to ensure that it does not draw excessive current from the system. The integrated thermal compensation circuit ensures that the device is always able to dissipate the appropriate amount of power. It has a reverse leakage current of 5mA maximum and is rated for up to 10 million (10M) cycles.
The working principle of the SMCJ10ATR is based on Zener breakdown and capacitors with low leakage. When a transient event such as an over-voltage or over-current occurs, the SMCJ10ATR diode will absorb the excess voltage, while also allowing the over-current to pass through the diode and be dissipated.
