TVS Diodes are increasingly being used in the electronics industry, primarily as surge protection devices. One such device is the SMCJ14ATR, a unidirectional surface mount transient voltage suppressor diode. It is designed to protect sensitive electronic equipment from voltage surges and electrostatic discharges. The SMCJ14ATR is a two-lead device which comes in a compact SUS package. It has a low body leakage current, and is suitable for use in high-ambient temperature, as well as high-speed switching circuits. The device then acts as a voltage clamp, absorbing the high-frequency or surge energy and limiting the voltage at the given breakdown voltage.
The SMCJ14ATR has a wide operating range, from 5 volts to 14 volts with a breakdown voltage of 13 volts. The peak pulse power it can dissipate is 1500W, and the peak pulse current is 33A. It has a voltage rating of 14V, and a maximum leakage current of 250uA. It has a very low capacitance of only 80pF, and is well suited for use in high-speed circuits.
