The SMCJ160A-13 is a part of TVS - Diodes that can be used to aviode transient overvoltage. It is the ideal choice for the protection of I/O or power circuits. It has a peak pulse current rate of 13A and a voltage of 330V. This device prevents spikes from entering the system, providing protection for all kinds of low-voltage circuits.The SMCJ160A-13 is constructed of a zinc oxide (ZnO) diode that connects to a backplate capacitor. The diode, when triggered by a voltage surge, closes the circuit just like an air fuse. This prevents damage to circuitry due to overcurrents and overvoltages. The capacitor stores charge up to a certain threshold level and then discharges through the diode, hence protecting the circuit.The working principle of the SMCJ160A-13 is simple.
