It can absorb up to 16A peak pulse current, and is suitable for automotive loads from 18V to 72V. The TVS diode also has a low leakage current in the reverse direction, up to 1μA continuous current for the SMA package and 10μA for the SMB package.

Working Principle

A TVS diode works by providing a short-circuiting path across a power line when it detects a voltage spike in the line. This reduces the voltage on the line by shunting the excess energy away from the protected device. In the case of a unidirectional diode such as the SMCJ45CE3/TR13, the diode is designed to only respond to voltages in one direction, for example from the positive to the negative side of the line.
