Transient voltage suppression (TVS) diodes are designed to protect sensitive circuits against potentially damaging electrostatic discharge (ESD) and surge voltages. They are commonly used in automotive, telecommunications and consumer electronic applications as well as in industrial systems. The SMCJ6.5AHE3/9AT is a unidirectional TVS diode rated for transient suppression up to 6.5 volts and 3,000 amperes peak pulse current.

The SMCJ6.5AHE3/9AT provides protection for sensitive circuits by limiting the maximum clamping voltage so the device can absorb and dissipate the often destructive energy of an ESD or surge event. The device is specifically designed for over voltage protection for systems such as wires, cables, and printed circuit boards (PCB). Its reverse breakdown voltage, also known as stand-off voltage, is critical in determining the amount of surge current needed to ensure device protection as the breakdown voltage defines the beginning of conduction in the diode.

The SMCJ6.5AHE3/9AT is a lead-free, surface mount diode with cathode indicated by a polarity band. It is supplied in a 6.5mm body size, ideal for applications where space is an issue. It can be soldered directly onto the board without any special assembly techniques, such as hot air or infrared re-flow soldering. Furthermore, its extended range of operating and storage temperature, humidity, and vibration makes it suitable for extreme environmental conditions.

The SMCJ6.5AHE3/9AT diode has a maximum reverse Stand-off voltage of 6.5 V and can handle peak energies of 200W, with a maximum clamping voltage at a specified peak pulse current of 334 V, maximum clamping voltage at 3,000 A of 990 Volts, and a maximum clamping current of 3000A. It is capable of withstanding repetitive ESD strikes up to 25kV (HBM) and offers excellent power handling capability with extremely low leakage current.
