SMCJ75CA-M3/9AT is a three (3) terminal, surface mount Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) device, popularly used with Rectifier Diodes for providing electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection to voltage sensitive circuitry. The device is capable of providing protection against voltage overshoot/undershoot events, such as electrical surges, and electromagnetic transients.
Application Field
SMCJ75CA-M3/9AT\'s greatest protection advantage is applicable in ultra-fast switchers such as switching power supplies, telecommunications, industrial electronics, and modern automotive electronics. This robust and proven TVS component is designed and manufactured to meet the demands of high-speed switching transients. It is engineered with very short response time in order to protect high-frequency, logic-level, or low voltage sensitive circuits such as I/O lines, transceivers, and data lines.
Working Principle
The SMCJ75CA-M3/9AT works by clamping excessive surge voltages and preventing them from entering the protected device. This can be best visualized as a "trap door" in the circuit that quickly latches shut when an excessive surge or voltage is detected and prevents it from entering the protected equipment. In the event of a surge, the TVS has a very large "absorption capability" so that the user\'s design can meet the lowered risk of destruction to the effected components.
The SMCJ75CA-M3/9AT absorbs electrical transients, during which are energized and converted these transients into heat, and thus eliminating the danger of a destructive surge. The device is specially designed to offer a very low incremental surge resistance, commonly referred to as "the dynamic resistance" of the device. This low-dynamic resistance allows the device to better protect the circuit from unusually high voltages and currents.
