Transient voltage suppressors (TVSs) are electromechanical components designed to absorb and dissipate short-duration voltage transients. SMF11A-HE3-18’s working principle is based on Impulse Discharge Current (IDC). When a voltage transient is applied, the diodes in the device store electrical energy and begin to conduct a tiny current. The current increases rapidly, resulting in a two-part behavior. First, the diode begins to act as a reverse polarity rectifier, preventing the voltage from exceeding the VCL value. The IDC is passed through, followed by a sharp decreasing voltage that is eventually almost zero.
In addition to the IDC, the TVS diode also has a constant current discharge function. As the transient voltage increases, the IDC reaches a peak and then decreases sharply. The constant current discharge function of SMF11A-HE3-18 reduces the voltage to the safe level, allowing it to pass safely through the system. This ensures that no harm is caused to the sensitive electronic components of the system.
