TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressors) are a type of Overvoltage Protection Device used to protect sensitive electronic components from high voltage transients. The SMF40A-M3-08 is a bidirectional, low capacitance, ultra low inductance, miniature transient-voltage-suppressor diode used primarily for EMI/RFI suppression and protection of sensitive ICs from high-energy voltage transients. It has a maximum transient breakdown voltage of 60VDC, and a peak power rating of 500W. The diode also features very fast response times of less than 1 nanosecond. It has a very low forward voltage drop and an extremely low leakage current. This makes it ideal for applications such as Buffer Overvoltage and Overvoltage-Sensitive Device (OVS) protection. It is also well suited for protecting s in high-speed communication systems, such as set-top boxes and other consumer electronic equipment.
The primary working principle of the SMF40A-M3-08 TVS diode is very simple.
