SMF7.0A RQG Application Field and Working Principle

TVS - Diodes are the acronym for transistor voltage suppressors. It offers bidirectional ESD protection for sensitive electronic components. This protection is offered in almost all electronic circuits to protect them from damage due to high electrostatic energy. TVS-diode also avoids the motion of high-voltage circuits while maintaining a low current level. It also prevents a high-current surge from damaging an electronic component. The SMF7.0A RQG is a transient voltage suppressor developed by ROHM semiconductor. It is an uni-directional device that gives protection from extreme voltage transients in order to defend I/O lines. The SMF7.0A RQG can protect against a peak pulse power of up to 600W (8 / 20 μS).This device has an additional / enhanced environment protection due to the presence of conformal coating and other protection techniques. These techniques include a surge stress absorber, backflow absorber, direct-flow absorber, and a positive temperature coefficient.SMF7.0A RQG has a Zener breakdown voltage of 7V, while the peak power dissipation is 600W (8/20μs). Its Breakdown Voltage (VBR) is at a value of 6.4V. This device operates at a temperature range of -55°C & +125°C and reverse leakage current of 100uA. It also offers excellent clamping characteristics and requires low clamping voltage. It packs a power of high protection and has the ability to absorb ESD, surge, and other transient effects.The SMF7.0A is commonly used for bidirectional protection in circuits that are exposed to lightning, power line transients, and other load-shedding events. The device absorbs power dissipation through linear regulating of the clamping voltage, limiting the voltage peak. This reduces the risk of damaging an electronic device. The SMF7.0A can also be used to protect controllers in high-voltage application such as motor drives, lighting, and renewable energy systems. The transient voltage suppressors have different packages and configurations which provide protection in a variety of applications.
