TVS-Diodes

The SMLJ78CA are TVS (transient voltage suppressor) diodes used to provide electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection in sensitive electronic devices. Working Principle
The working principle of the SMLJ78CA is based off the PN junction diode which become active when a voltage higher than its breakdown voltage (BV) is applied to it.When an ESD event is applied to the TVS-Diode a large amount of energy will be stored in the device\'s capacitance, leading to the device entering a conducting state for a short period of time. During this state, the device will act like a low forward voltage drop diode, allowing current to travel from both the anode and cathode to the other.It is this forward voltage, as the device dissipates the energy stored in its capacitance, that is ultimately responsible for protecting the circuit.
