SN7445NG4 is a CMOS logic circuit designed for several applications from multiplexer/decoder to logic-level translation. It is produced by Texas Instruments and is a part of their 54 Series of TTL devices. This chip is available in a standard 300-mil DIP package.The SN7445NG4 is a 5-pin device designed for the purpose of decoding a binary information by serving as a digital multiplexer, multiplexer/demultiplexer and 4-to-16 line decoder/data selector. It has only one input called BINARY that is used to pass a binary information to the device, a four decode input signals called A, B, C, and D and a 15 output lines called X0 - X15.The SN7445NG4 operates on a voltage range between 4.75V and 5.25V, with a maximum output loading current of 25mA. This device has an on-chip protection to prevent damage should it be subjected to excessive current. It provides a two-state logic output.To understand the working principle of the SN7445NG4, we must first look at its Truth Table. The Truth Table is a chart which shows the output for every possible combination of inputs when the device is powered on. In the SN7445NG4, the BINARY input is also referred to as the Enable input. When the enable input is high along with either A, B, C or D being high, the respective output X0 to X15 is also high. If none of the A, B, C or D inputs are high along with the Binary input, then all X0 to X15 outputs are low regardless of the value of the Binary input.The SN7445NG4 is most commonly used to control the selection of one of several data inputs and the enable input is usually used for the purpose of enable/disable the input data. In the case of the SN7445NG4, the four inputs A, B, C, and D are used to select from a total of 16 selections on 4 lines and each line can have one of 16 values which can be selected.The SN7445NG4 is also used in logic-level translation applications. It can be used to translate TTL logic signals to CMOS and vice-versa. It is also used in applications of other types of logic, such as MOS, ECL, and CMOS.The SN7445NG4 is also used in computer memory systems. The SN7445NG4 is used as a multiplexer to select between multiple memory chips based on address input signals. It is also used to decode signal inputs to select a certain memory chip that needs to be accessed.
