This allows more complex frequency control capabilities, as its output is adjustable, making it suitable for pulse-width modulation as well.Working PrincipleThe SN74ALS191ANSRG4 is a synchronous, programmable 4-bit up/down binary counter and divider built on seven separate logic elements. It works by counting pulses presented to its Clock Input terminal and providing either of two outputs; a “high” count, or a “low” count, depending on the pulse count.The "high" terminal is labeled "Q4" and will count up to seven (7) before resetting to zero (0); whereas the "low" terminal is labeled "Q1" and will count up to three (3) before resetting to zero (0). When the device is not counting, it is held in the "reset" state, so as to keep the counter at zero (0).The SN74ALS191ANSRG4 also has capabilities allowing it to divide pulses, so as to produce a regular pulse sequence with a programmable duty cycle.
